Those who know me also know that I’m really fond of healthy foods. (Not that I always only eat healthy, but I’m working on it.) At the moment, I’m also trying to lose weight and therefore was looking for healthy snack choices – I just can’t resist having something to nibble while working or surfing or reading. Also, I have a sweet tooth, so only nuts or carrot sticks are really not cutting it for me during the day.
While looking for awesome snack choices I came across apple chips. Of course, it’s kind of a natural choice but the ones from the store are always sugared. And because sometimes I’m really stupid, it never occurred to me to do them myself.
(Why on earth not. Doh.)
Well, that changed. And let me tell you: it. is. so. incredibly. easy. The only things you need are:
- lemon juice
- cinnamon (optional)
- backing trays
- an oven
Yepp, that’s it. I filled two trays with three apples, so you really don’t need many apples – or several backing trays. 😉
This is how you do it:
Remove the apple cores and slice the apples rather thinly. Turn the slices in lemon juice so they don’t get brown and put them on the backing trays. Dust them with cinnamon (you can also use cinnamon and sugar for making them even sweeter, or just leave them pure) and put them into the oven at app. 70°C. Make sure the oven door is not completely closed so the humidity can get out – easiest done by putting a wooden spoon in the door. Bake them for ca. 2 hours and turn them at least once during that time and voilá: yummie, healthy apple chips.
